Types of Garage Door Problems

Garage door problems can come in various forms depending on the type of door and how it was used.

One of the most common problems is the garage door spring.  Garage door springs tend to break due to basic wear and tear, or because something has collided with the garage door and placed too much pressure on the spring.  Many times, when a spring is broken, the door will not lift, even when people try to lift it manually.  This is because the tightly coiled, high tension springs take a large part of the weight load of the garage door.

Another common problem is the garage door opener.  An opener can stop resposnding due to a variety of reasons, including a malfunctioning remote, a broken circuit breaker, or a worn out motor.

Garage doors may also malfunction due to broken panels, loose hinges, broken cables, or bent tracks.  For each of these issues, a garage door technician can usually provide an answer and repair the problem on the spot upon arrival.

Strategies for Fixing Garage Door Opener

There are several ways to fix a broken opener.

First, you can examine and reset the force modifier switch.

Secondly, you can check the electric circuits to see if the problem isn’t just a blown fuse.

Another common issue is the remote controls.  Remote controls can malfunction due to a number of reasons, with the most common reason being that the garage door remote has simply run out of battery.  To check if the batteries are the source of the problem, you can try two things: moving closer to the opener and testing the remote at a closer range, or replacing the remote control batteries.
